This digital compass is perfect for traveling in a car or truck, camping or off-roading, or boating.
This low power digital compass is battery operated so no wiring is required.
The solid state digital compass is ultra-reliable with no moving parts and offers 5 degree resolution.
The large 2 1/4 inch (5.7 cm) LCD display indicates the magnetic heading in three ways.
The upper left corner of the display shows the heading in 5 degree increments from 0 to 355 degrees.
The main area of the LCD display has a compass rose which moves in 22 1/2 degree increments.
The upper right corner of the display indicates the directional letters of the cardinal points (N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW).
There are also indicators for calibration required (at initial power-up) and magnetic signal disturbance.
Tapping the Light Button turns on the Electro-Luminescent backlight which automatically shuts off after a few seconds.
The display can be tilted to any angle over a 45 degree range.
Calibration is performed the first time the batteries are installed, or when the digital compass is moved from one area
in the vehicle or boat to another.
Calibration only takes a few seconds and consists of simply turning the car or vessel in a full circle.
The calibration parameters are retained in memory so that the next time the digital compass is turned on, the
correct magnetic heading is displayed.
There is a reset button on the back of the unit if a recalibration is required.
The digital compass comes complete with three Duracell AAA batteries, and hook and loop self adhesive tape for easy mounting.
The digital compass can be used in boats, but will not yield accurate results in sailboats under very large angles of heel.
The digital compass is 2 7/8 inches (7.3 cm) wide, 2 5/16 inches (5.9 cm) deep, 3 7/8 inch (9.8 cm) tall,
and weighs 4.0 ounces (112 grams) with batteries installed.
