Full Description:
The Stanley London® Miner's Compass is a heavy, solid brass reproduction of a handheld European Miner's compass.  A front sight folds up and the window in the lid has a scribed line to serve as a rear sight.  The compass can determine both the magnetic heading of an object as well as its angle of elevation or declination.  A pendulous arm can read the vertical angle of an object of elevation or declination.  The inclination scale is printed mirror imaged so that when taking a elevation or declination measurement, the lid with the internal mirror can be placed in the 45 degree position, and the angle can be read while simultaneously viewing the object.  The top of the compass has a Natural Sine table to assist in trigonometric calculations in the field.  The compass rose is marked in degrees and has the traditional compass rose markings.  The compass has a needle lift mechanism to protect the compass jewel when being transported.  Closing the lid activates the needle lift mechanism and opening the lid frees the needle.  The compass measures 3 1/8 inches (7.9 cm) in diameter, 1 3/8 inches (3.5 cm) thick, and weighs a very solid 1 pound, 3 ounces (540 grams).  The Miner's Compass is beautifully polished to a high luster.

Accessories:
We offer a solid brass pocket compass chain measuring 14 inches (35.5 cm) overall and weighing 1.1 ounces (31 grams) as an option for your compass.  The chain is specially made to be non-magnetic and will not effect the accuracy of your compass.  The chain has a clasp on one end that attaches to the fob on the pocket compass and the other end can be attached to your pocket, belt, or button hole.

An optional "Stanley London" embossed leather carrying case with rear belt loop can be purchased or a plain hardwood storage is also available..

An optional hardwood case that features a handsome inlaid compass rose is available for storage and display as well.  Each compass rose is unique and will have slight variations since they will be inlaid using similar hand tools to those used 200 years ago.  The Large Hardwood Case with Hand Inlaid Compass Rose is 2 1/4 inches (5.7 cm) tall with the lid closed, 4 inches (10.2 cm) square, and weighs 7.5 ounces (213 grams).  This case can be ordered with a custom solid brass plaque to be mounted on the front and/or inside lid of the box.
